Grain and Grape

こんなにコロナで世界中が落ち込むとは想像もしていませんでした。一刻も早く元の生活に戻る事を願います。あと、今回から英語の勉強の為にも英文も書いていこうかなと思います。

最近、北海道中富良野にあるワイナリーで週一でお世話になる事になりました。約20haの栽培面積で日本の中ではかなり大きい方みたいです。実はこれはニュージーランドにいる時からやりたかった事でもあります。ニュージーランドの時はホップ栽培しながら、現地のブルワリーを探していたのですが、なかなか見つからず、ワーキングホリデービザが切れてしまいました。

ホップの仕事が終わりの時期を迎え始めたので、ネルソンから山を越えたブレナムというワイナリーで有名な街を訪れました。そこは白ワインのソーヴィニョンブランが有名な地域で、見渡す限りの葡萄畑。ソーヴィニョンブランを飲んだ時の衝撃が凄すぎて、ワイナリーで働いてみたいと思い(ワインのバレルエイジングにも興味があったので)、履歴書を送りまくりました。15社くらいに送ったのですが、見事に全滅。面接してくれたワイナリーもあったのですが、僕の乏しい英語の理解力では繁茂期には無理だと言われ、諦めました。マルチタスクになるので、おそらく普通に日本のワイナリーで働くだけでも大変なんだと思います。

都会に住んでいるとなかなか出来ない経験なので、そういう点でも上富良野に来てよかったと思います。ワイナリーの方にも感謝です。やっぱり自分はフィールドが好きです。自然の中で年間を通して一つのもの作り上げていく感じ。

しばらくはブルワリーとホップとたまにワイナリーの生活が続くので、ワインの方の投稿もするかもです。

I never imagined that the world would be so depressed by Corona. I hope everything back to normal life as soon as possible. And I’m ganna try to write my blog in English to improve my English skill.

Recently, I’vd started working at a winery in Nakafurano, Hokkaido once a week. That vineyard has about 20 ha, it seems to be quite large in Japan. Actually, this is what I wanted to do in New Zealand. And also I was looking for local breweries to work while I was growing hops in NZ, but I couldn’t and finally my working holiday visa expired.

When end of heavesting hop, I visited Blenheim, a famous winery area, next to Nelson. That area is famous for white wine, Sauvignon Blanc, and there are vineyards as far as the eye can see. I drank Sauvignon Blanc. It was so great and I felt to want to work at a winery (I was also interested in barrel aging of wine), so I sent my resume to about 15 wineries in NZ, but it was completely wiped out. Some of the wineries interviewed me, but they told me that I couldn’t work there during the busiest period because of my poor English listening. So I gave them up. And then I backed to Japan to work at Hop Kotan Brewing.

If I’m living in a big city, it would be difficult to experience winery job. So I really appreciate they gave me a chance. After all I think I made a good choice to stay in Kamifurano. I like farm job. I wanna make something great in nature throughout the year.
